Artist Statement :
“To enjoy the moments, with ease and pleasure are the basic subjects of my sculptures. I prefer to choose the themes, with which I have enjoyed myself in my childhood. Climbing on trees, playing with a wheel, running in the countryside, sister chasing her brother, child with a puppy and several such themes have been my favourire ones. Today when I have crossed forty, I get my theme inspirations from my daughter's childhood. Her doll taking a nap in her tricycle is an excellent example of this. The compulsions of today’s fast paced life have driven our minds miles away from emotions. Our lives have become monotonous, dull and gloomy. We have made ourselves distant from all emotional aspects of life. We are so far away from these emotional vibrations that we tend to be aloof from them. Many of my sculptures are capable of making one aware of these emotional vibrations. The emotions and the essence of childhood are perfectly blended in my sculptures.
The 'heads' done by me try to get along with the expressions and feelings together. They provide and opportunity to meditate and find out the hidden emotional conflicts.
I suppose my work surely proves to be a triumph over the conflicts and tensions of today's monotonous and busy life and make the viewer look at life in a relaxed manner.
The most defining influence on me has been the childhood memories of leading a lonely life without father and looking at my mother struggling for livelihood and yet taking care of the children. Further growing up meant wandering in the streets, swinging with friends and mates, designing the floors and doors of the neighbours, observing dogs and puppies and chirping birds. The journey on the path of art continued after the school education, during stay at my uncle’s house watching his friend and educator Shri Vinayak Anant Apte busy at his work which influenced me a great deal and became a source of inspiration for me to choose the sculpture.”
