Jeff Mistri
b. 1938 - Valsad, Gujarat - d. 2011 Pune, Maharashtra
Mistri studied at the Sir J. J. School of Art, Bombay. In 1962 he travelled to London where he studied art at the Central School of Art and St. Martins School of Art while working as an Art Director with advertising agencies. He returned to India in 1985 as Creative Director with a leading advertising firm.
Mistri was a Fellow of the Royal Society of Art and a Member of the Society of Typographic DesigneRs. He held three solo shows at Bajaj Art Gallery, Mumabi in 1996, at Jehangir Art Gallery, Mumbai in 1999 and at Indiaaart Gallery, Pune in 2010 and participated in many group exhibitions in England and in India.
"I am not painting for any great cause. I feel it is not necessary to make statements when one paints but simply to celebrate and pay respect to world that we live in, not only as an observer but as a part of life.
I am very rerely satisfied with a painting that's why I have an inner complusion to carry on with the subject. I also feel the definitive expression of my subject is in the future" |
