Oil pastels painting workshop on how to paint a tree

In this painting workshop video, artist Chitra Vaidya demonstrates painting techniques on how to paint a tree using oil pastels. This video was created for Khula Aasmaan, the platform for creative expression for school children and college students.

"In this painting demo video , I have demonstrated how to paint a picture of a big tree on the school premises . Firstly, we observed the tree. We observed the large trunk, number of branches, their size, light, shadow, colours and so on.
I had a discussion with the students, so that they get an idea of how to observe trees. After that, I began to draw. While observing the tree in front, all the branches were drawn one by one. Took care that the character of the tree appears in the painting.
Oil pastels were used in this painting. These colours are easy to use. There are many shades available in oil pastels. The shades of these colours can be easily mixed together. We do not have to use any other tools like water, brushes, palette etc. Observe the lights and shadows of the tree and paint it . Yellow ochre, light brown, dark brown, light green and many other colours have been used to create required colour shades. This is painted by using free strokes of oil pastels, without showing much details, to show the impression of the tree."
Artist and art teacher Chitra Vaidya is an avid painter and a popular art educator. Chitra is an alumnus of Sir J. J. School of Art, Mumbai. She has been conducting art workshops and painting demonstrations for students, corporates and other organisations.

एका वृक्षाचे ऑइलपेस्टल्‍स (तैलखडू) ने केलेले चित्रण

शाळेच्या परिसरातील पाने गळून गेलेल्या मोठ्या वृक्षाचे चित्र या व्हिडीओत काढून दाखवले आहे. प्रथम या वृक्षाचे निरीक्षण केले. याचे मोठे खोड, त्यावरील भरपूर व मोजता न येणाऱ्या फांद्या, त्यांचा आकार, त्यावर पडलेला प्रकाश व छाया, त्यात दिसणारे रंग याचा अभ्यास केला. विद्यार्थ्यांशी याबद्दल चर्चा केली, त्यामुळे वृक्षाचे निरीक्षण कसे करायचे याची कल्पना त्यांना आली. त्यानंतर त्याचे चित्र काढायला सुरुवात करताना त्याचे प्रमाण, कागदाच्या आकाराला शोभेल, त्यावर पूर्ण झाड मावेल याचा विचार केला व काढण्यास सुरुवात केली. समोर दिसणाऱ्या झाडाचे निरीक्षण करत करत सर्व फांद्या काढून घेतल्या. दिसणाऱ्या झाडाचे वैशिष्ट्य आपल्या चित्रात येईल याची काळजी घेतली. चित्र रंगवण्यासाठी ऑइल पेस्टल्स म्हणजेच तैलखडू वापरले आहेत. हे रंग वापरण्यास सुलभ असतात. यात पुष्कळ रंगछटा उपलब्ध असतात. या रंगांच्या छटा सहजपणे एकमेकांत मिसळता येतात. त्यासाठी पाणी, ब्रश अशी इतर कुठलीच साधने वापरावी लागत नाहीत. झाडावरील छायाप्रकाशाचे निरीक्षण करुन त्याप्रमाणे हे चित्र रंगवले. यात यलो ऑकर, लाइट ब्राऊन, डार्क ब्राऊन, लाइट ग्रीन या व अशा इतर अनेक रंगांचा वापर केला आहे. यात फार बारकावे न दाखवता फक्‍त त्या झाडाची कल्पना यावी यासाठी ऑइल पेस्टल्सच्या वेगवान फटाकाऱ्यांनी हे चित्रण केले आहे.
