Painting by child artist Sai Nithya

The painting by Sai Nithya Geethika Thota (7 years) from Bengaluru, Karnataka, received a gold medal in Khula Aasmaan monthly online drawing and painting competition for September 2021.

My shortlisted art in Khula Aasmaan is my recollection from a one-day trip that I went on with my friend. It was a fun trip to Galibore nature camp. It was a beautiful place amid a jungle and beside River Cauvery. There was a big swing under a big tree. My best friend and I had fun swinging together. That day I was wearing a green T-shirt and pink pants and my friend was in a blue frock. I used poster colours to paint this memory.

Artist Statement

My name is Sai Nithya Geethika Thota and I'm 7. I'm studying in Kendriya Vidyalaya NAL, Bangalore, Karnataka. I started learning 'colouring' with oil pastels, watching some videos at home when I was 6. Now I mostly use poster colours. I did a lot of art on the night view of landscapes and cityscapes. But these days, I do art on people and landscapes. I paint on whatever piece of paper or cardboard I find at home, even if it is a carton box. Art is my favourite hobby and I do at least one art everyday. My present favourite is poster colours and I'm yet to try acrylics and oil paints. I would like to try canvas painting too, which would be my next step of learning.
