Information At heights of more than 10,000 ft., these little houses seem carved out of the mountain slopes. They look so miniscule on the backdrop of the large bare mountains. I have always wondered as to how the inhabitants do not feel insecure at the prospect of a sudden landslide in these mountains which are so prone to such natural calamities. ( Spiti, 2011 ) - Milind Sathe The Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalaya mountains in the north-eastern part of the Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The name "Spiti" means "The Middle Land", i.e. the land between Tibet and India. Spiti valley is a research and cultural centre for Buddhists. Highlights include Key Monastery and Tabo Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the world and a favourite of the Dalai Lama. (source : Wikipedia)
