He is artist from Kolhapur and worked at various places like Mumbai, Kolkata, Banaras, Chennai & Guwahati. Though he worked in Applied art his main interest was Fine Art. In 1930, he worked for Prabhat Film Company for doing several backgrounds, posters, show cards etc.

Afterwards he worked for several film companies like Shalimar Film Company, A.V. M. Film Institute, Madras, Janata Cinema, Kolkatta. He worked there for 20 years. During 1938, he went to Aundh State. The king of Aundh State, Dist Satara, Maharashtra was fond of Art and Artists and Shigavkar was one of those artists who worked for King of Aundh State. He did G. D. Art Painting in 1943. He created many portraits, Landscapes, Compositions and nudes.

During Indo – Pak War he held an exhibition of painting for war fund. His paintings on war of 1857 became popular.

He had very strong command on water colours and Oil colours.
