Remarks

According to ancient Hindu and Buddhist manuscripts, Yakshas are a benevolent class of nature spirits who are the guardians of the natural treasures hidden in the earth and tree roots. Female yaksas, known as Yakshini, are portrayed as beautiful young women with happy round faces and are associated with fertility of nature. Heavily bejeweled, here she stands holding a branch of the mango tree surrounded by majestic animals. All existence is bound by time and change. The backdrop of the Shrivatsa, the Tibetan Knot of Eternity, is an ancient symbol representing the interlacing of the spiritual path, the flowing of time and movement within that which is Eternal.
