Paramhansa Yogananda suggested that we meditate on the horizon line where the ocean meets the sky. He said that it represents the superconscious state, which lies between the conscious and subconscious minds. The painting portrays the dusk, the moment between the business of the day, when the conscious mind is dominant, and night when out subconscious mind takes over. Deep meditation occurs when the restless mind has been withdrawn in stillness, but is concentrated and intensely aware.
