Sanjay Shelar a young Artist from Kolhapur was invited to give a demonstration of Figurative Painting by having a model siting in the hall, on 27th Jan 08. He gave the demo in oil colours on canvas. He made the model sitting sideways, so as to have a side profile of a model. To begin with he gave a thin coat of a colour to make an even background. After drying the base coat, he made a rough outline sketch of a model. He explained to the audience it is better to have a rough sketch. Then he started colouring. During the demo a question was asked, which is the right time for figurative painting, morning or evening. He explained it depends upon the artist, because day light keeps changing and it becomes difficult for artist to have proper shade & light effect. Therefore the suggetion from him was to have a focus light on the model, which remains as per the adjustment made when we start painting. A demo was completed in 2.5hrs. time. All were happy to see the excellent work by young artist from Kolhapur.
