During a cartoon drawing course, arranged by the Indiaart Gallery, a special session on cartoon drawing was demonstrated by well-known cartoonist, Shri S. D. Phadnis.
The lecture - demo, covered the principles and basics of the art of cartooning and how to make cartoon drawing expressive and interesting enough to capture the attention of the viewers.
According to him, a cartoon should have a minimal written explanation relying more on the drawing to be self-explanatory. He further added that a good cartoonist should be able to be identified by his cartoons and also that a thorough study of the subject or situation needed to be done before rendering the drawing.
The lecture-demo made people realize that what appears light-hearted on the surface truly needs in depth study to be successful at the 'art of cartooning'.
