Vasant Sarwate was born in 1927. He graduated in Civil Engineering from the Pune College of Engineering. He worked with Associated Cement Company in Mumbai for many years. He is a famous Cartoonist and caricaturist. He is renowned for his Ink and Poster colour drawings for the books of famous writers namely, P. L. Deshpande, Vijay Tendulkar, Jaywant Dalvi, Ramesh Mantri etc. He has also created covers and drawings for a vernacular magazine 'Lalit' for over 40 years.
Sarwate’s book called 'SAWADHAN! PUDHE WALAN AHE' was awarded for the best literature award by Govt. of Maharashtra, and the same book was selected for the list of best 100 books for the decade prepared by Maharashtra Times. His book 'VYANGACHITRA: EK SANWAD' was recipient of Maharashtra States P. L. Deshpande award. He also received the Central Govt. award for illustrations in the books written by famous writer Vinda Karandikar - 'SASHACHE KAAN' and 'ETU LOKANCHA DESH'.
Vasant Sarwate's paintings are also displayed and in the collection at Hotel Kohinoor Executive, Pune and Garden Court, Mumbai. He has also held exhibitions of his paintings at Mumbai, Pune, Banglore, Panjim and many other cities.
