Note from Chitra Vaidya on this workshop :
This is a quick demo of orange and banana fruits. I did a quick sketch of orange and bananas with a light pencil. I have used poster colours to paint these fruits.
Poster colours are bright and opaque. They are water soluble, easy to mix and dry quickly. We can paint broad washes and patches easily with flat and round brushes. Poster colours are available in various shades.
The direction of light is from top left corner, so we can see the light on top left side of the orange. To prepare this light tone, I used a mixture of chrome yellow, little orange and white colour, and added more orange to paint darker portion. Also mixed light green and yellow ochre to prepare light olive green tone in the bottom right corner. All these colours are blended nicely with other which gives a three dimensional effect to the painting. To paint the highlights, I used mixture of lemon yellow and white. I also painted some light yellow and light brown dots to show the texture of the orange.
Out if three bananas, one banana is overlapping the orange. In the beginning, observe light and shadows. Starting with lighter part, I used mixture of lemon yellow and white, then blended it with chrome yellow and yellow ochre at the side of shadow. Also added some light olive green. Then I painted dark patches and dark ends of bananas with a mixture of green and brown.
For ground colour I used mixture of cobalt blue, little black and white which made bluish gray colour. Also did a dark tone for shadow below bananas. You can show more details with taking more time to paint.
