This children’s essay competition was conducted by Khula Aasmaan and Science Park, Pune.
Beep, Beep, Beep my alarm went off and stopped after a few seconds. When it sensed I was half awake. My sink appeared from the side of my desk and I used it to freshens up. My virtual board popped up and notified me about the last minute instructions given by my teacher about the upcoming field trip. Next the weatherboard informed me that it would be quite warm and windy over there. I went over to my closet and put on my favourite blue colour, weather adapted suit, took my new portable hover board and went out of my house. I hovered to the nearest station and cached the hyperloop to my school. We were going on a tour around Olympus Mons to observe, feel and touch the flora present over there. I had never touched planes in my life time and therefore this would be completely new to me. There was a long day ahead and therefore I had some heavy breakfast capsules. It was fried artichoke with melted mozzarella cheese and chunk of chicken.
It was 9 o’clock when I met my friends. We were all really excited to go to Olympus Mons since it was our first time going there I bought and packed some tomato basic soup capsules for lunch at the station.
When we went outside our domed colonies, the wind blew so tremendously that we had to turn up our sand and dust wipers to the highest speed. Once the wind settled, we went onward with our journey. It took half an hours to reach the base of the mountain. The ticket counter approved of our pre-booked passes and each of us were instructed to go into a weather proof travel sphere in groups of four. As we went uphill, a small section of the sphere often opened up to let us feel the temperature outside while our virtual tour guide helped us clear much more about our surroundings and supplied as with plants, flowers and other tangible items to feel and observe. Some places were just rusty red barren land while the rest was filled with weird large shaped ferns and Martian evergreens. These were planted by some of our great ancestors to increase oxygen levels at higher altitudes. Some places appeared to be covered in snow and by the time use reached the peak of the mountain, there was quite a lot of snow present. At the top of the mountain in everything till the horizon seemed clearly visible. We could see the tallest skyscrapers and many tiny drones and luxury flying cars. For an instance it felt as if we were the real owners of Mars instead of being just mere residents of this alluring planet.
