(The Online show features Medal winning and Honorable mention artworks from previous Khula Aasmaan contests for the periods of October to December 2016, January to March 2017 and April to June 2017)
Khula Aasmaan presents the eagerly awaited exhibition of medal winning artworks at Nehru Centre Art Gallery, Worli, Mumbai from 17 October to 22 October 2017. On display will be artworks which have won Gold, Silver and Bronze medals in the previous Khula Aasmaan contests - for the periods of October to December 2016, January to March 2017 and April to June 2017.
As the name says, Khula Aasmaan has no restrictions and is totally FREE. There are two age groups - 5 to 15 and 15 to 25. Khula Aasmaan runs a quarterly contest. While there are some themes suggested, children and young students are free to create artworks on any subject they like. There is no restriction on the medium used. They can use pencil, crayons, sketch pens, watercolours, acrylic or oil colours. Their creation can be a drawing, doodle, cartoon, painting, digital art, poster or photograph. The submission is online and the process is simple. All that they need to do is take a picture of their artwork using a smartphone and submit their artworks online 24 x 7. Every quarter, the jury draws a shortlist from the entries received. The shortlisting is done on the basis of originality of the idea and not so much on the skill level.
The uniqueness of Khula Aasmaan is that this not a mere contest. We create a dedicated web page for each shortlisted child and young student. This page will be managed for next 3 years and their creations published on their individual page apart from being promoted on the social media pages of Khula Aasmaan. Going further, all original shortlisted artworks go through a second round of judging and the medal winners ( gold, silver, bronze ) are decided upon. The jury has the freedom to decide multiple gold, silver and bronze medals every quarter.
The response to Khula Aasmaan has been fantastic from all quarters - children, parents, teachers, schools and colleges. Today Khula Aasmaan receives entries from more than 300 locations across India and beyond. While it is good to see entries coming in from all major cities in India, I am particularly happy to see enthusiastic participation from villages and towns in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Uttarakhand, Odisha, Kerala and many other remote areas.
Do visit this beautiful collection of artworks by talented children and young adults. An exhibition must for children, parents and teachers. Those who are not yet part of Khula Aasmaan, come over and get to know the fascinating world of Khula Aasmaan and be a part of it.
